Finding the Perfect Foundation

When applying make-up I like to go for a very natural look as if I have no make-up on at all. I prefer to be quite matte and always wear blusher to compliment my naturally pink cheeks. I naturally have quite dry skin but as most people do, I get a shiny nose.

I have always found it very difficult to find a foundation which not only matches my skin type and doesn't look cakey but also matches my skin colour.
I seem to have a very odd skin colour. Being very fair skinned there are a lot of foundations which do not go as pale as me. A lot of fair skinned girls can probably sympathise with me, I seem to have spent a life time trying to look for the right foundation.

I started off using powder foundation from Collection 2000 which seemed to work to start off with. After time it didn't give me enough coverage so I decided to move on to liquid foundation.

The liquid foundation I used was Rimmel Match Perfect Foundation in Ivory, (I know, I am that pale.) along with Collection 2000 Press Powder. (Yes I like Collection 2000 because it's cheap.) The foundation was really smooth to put on but was a little watery. I re-purchased this product but for some reason it was a completely different shade. A big comparison. I decided to move on to a different foundation as Rimmel had let me down.

Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation in Light Porcelain was my next choice in foundation. This was a lot thicker and creamier which made the application more even. However I always thought the colour of it wasn't quite right, a bit too pink for my skin tone, and it was quite cakey in the end.

I decided to go back to Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation as they had sorted the colour situation out. This colour is the best for me so far as it has more of a yellow undertone to it.

I haven't tried out too many foundations in the past as I have been worried I'm going to go out looking orange or looking like I have a trough of make up on my face.
I will be trying out other foundations in the future but definitely testing them out in the shop to start off with.

So here is a photo of my bare face and I will let you decide what foundation you think would suit me.

I don't know what I am looking for in a foundation but when I find the perfect one for me, I will be sure to tell you.

Maybelline New York, Colour Show Nail Varnish - Review

My usual nail varnish choice is Barry M Nail Paints so I decided to go with something a little different, in brand and colour.

I was looking on the Maybelline stand in Superdrug and saw they had a new range of nail varnishes. The colours were very vibrant and the Pow Green particularly caught my eye. I have never bought any sort of green nail varnish before so this was a bit of a big step for me.

I decided to try my new purchase out a few days after I bought it when all of my previous nail varnish was chipped beyond repair.
The nail varnish had a smooth application but as soon as I tried to go over a section I had already the paint had partly dried so creased. I only needed two coats to get the colour to where I wanted it and it touch dried relatively quickly but to completely dry it felt like hours.

I was most impressed by how well the nail varnish lasted. I did everything I usually do, which involves not looking after my nails at all, and there was hardly any chips.
I finally had to take it off due to it not being appropriate to do some waitress work but up until that point I was very impressed and pleased with my purchase.

When I bought the Colour Show nail varnish it was in conjunction with an offer on Maybelline products. I therefore also bought a Volum' Express, The Falsies, BlackDrama Mascara which I swear by as my favourite mascara. A clear Colour Show Nail Varnish and I was given an old Maybelline New York Nail Varnish in Gemey Paris which is a lovely Coral colour. All for £10.98, absolute bargain. Thank you Superdrug!

Simple, Eye Make-up Remover - Review

I am attempting to try different make-up and beauty products lately as I always use the same things because they are safe.
The main reason I use the same products is because I have dodgy skin. I have found in the past I am allergic to certain shampoo/conditioners, shower gels and other beauty products, so when I find something my skin likes, I prefer to stick with it.

I have been using Simple's Daily Moisturiser for some time now and though I should try some of their other products out and see what they are like.
I decided to try out the Simple Eye Make-up Remover as after I have my shower in the morning I look slightly like a panda. This product claimed it took off waterproof mascara so surely it would take off all my normal mascara with ease.
I was wrong.
I did what it said on the instructions and put some on a cotton pad, placed it on my eye for a moment or two then wiped downwards. However, instead of wiping a load of mascara off, I looked at the pad and there was hardly any black on it. I tried again and again, it proved useless.

After much work on this product I finally got all of my mascara off. However another disappointing moment was to come. The skin round my eyes had become dry from the product. My skin is usually quite dry anyway, but my usual make-up remover wipes don't cause any sort of dryness.

I know the eye area is very sensitive and the less you pull at the skin round the eye the better, but this product required a great deal of wiping.

I haven't been this disappointed in a product ever but this product was not a good purchase at all and I don't think I will be using it again.

Onwards to the next new product. Let's hope it will be less disappointing than this one and more like the Soap and Glory Gloss Stick!

Soap and Glory, Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick - Review

This may have been put on the shelves of Boots months, maybe even years ago but I have only just discovered the wonder of Soap and Glory's Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick.

The back story...
I have been looking for a natural lipstick for so long now because I don't like wearing bold, in your face colours. Come on, my hair is bright enough. I have tried products from Rimmel, Barry M, Collection 2000 and No 7 but they're either too orange and clash with my hair or they are too pale and make me look really ill.

I had heard about the Gloss Stick in a review on YouTube and decided I would go and find this product and test it out.
I rarely use Boots for my make up but this is the only place I know of that sells Soap and Glory products. I tried to find the Gloss Stick but wasn't sure which of the lip products was the right one. I saw there was a lot of plumping lip glosses and was very put off by this as I have quite big lips as it is. Any more plumper and I would start looking like a fish. I finally found it and was further more put off by the £8.00 price tag.
I decided to leave the Gloss Stick in the shop and think over it.

About a week later I found myself in Boots again. I was so tempted to try it out after all the fantastic reviews I was hearing about.
I decided to take the plunge and by it in Nudist. I took it up to the counter and the cashier said it was only £5.00, it had £3.00 off in a promotion.

I tried the product on as soon as I got home and it is amazing. Not only is it the perfect colour but it just glides on and smells incredible. I have been wearing it every day since and I am so hopeful that it will last forever.

I still think it is very over priced but I am so impressed by the Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick I will purchase it again and again. Soap and Glory, even though at this period in my life where I have hardly any money to spare, you have drawn me in to your gorgeous brand.

Thank you Soap and Glory, my mission for a natural lip stick is complete.
